Imagery and action observation are techniques that allow to mentally simulate movements and therefore, train cognitive aspects of learning, memory and motor control (Guillot & Collet, 2010) that are essential to sport practice. However, its effect on children athletes is unknown. Accordingly, this research aimed to propose an imagery training (EIM) designed for child athletes, that allows evaluating its effect on psychological and biomechanical aspects in the execution of a sporting gesture in artistic gymnastics. For this, a pre-post study was carried out where the imagery ability and the performance of the back arch (ArcA) were evaluated, in 5 gymnasts, between 7 and 12 years old, before and after a 14 training sessions of imagery, varying their difficulty and specificity. The results suggest that imagery was effective to improve aspects of movement performance such as intra-articular coordination and propulsion. Aspects, that from the theory of Berstein dynamic systems, are indicators of learning and motor control. Last, the limitations of the study were noted, related to sample size and difficulties in recording, so it is suggested to conduct future research with greater rigor in these aspects.eng
