The Lemnaceae are a family of free floating hydrophytes characterized by their reduction of organs and morphological differentiation. The family comprises five genera and 37 species of near-cosmopolitan distribution. All five genera (Landoltia, Lemna, Spirodela, Wolffia, Wolffiella) and 15 species are known to occur in Colombia. The plants are most frequent in the highlands of Cundinamarca, in the Magdalena Valley, and in the northern regions. Identification keys, descriptions, taxonomic comments, and distribution maps for all species are included.eng
