With 305 described species, the genus Anastrepha is the most diverse within the Tephritidae native to America and its species are considered pests of great economic importance in the neotropical region. These Dipterans are known as true fruit flies, which cause serious damage to commercial fruit trees. Likewise, its presence in fruit exporting countries generates strong quarantine restrictions. Taxonomic descriptions of immature forms of Anastrepha species are known for only 10 % of its species described with adults.Through working on optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and structural analysis, in the present study the description of the external anatomy of the egg is completed for 22 species of the genus Anastrepha, which belong to the groups curvicauda, fraterculus, grandis, leptozona, mucronota, pseudoparallela, serpentina, spatulate, and striata. Among these, the egg of A. canalis, A. fraterculus – Andean morphotype, A. ligiae, A. limae, A. manizaliensis, A. mucronota, A. aff. obliqua, A. ornata, and A. willei are described for the first time. To identify the species, two dichotomous keys are presented. Larvae of the third instar are herein described for 12 Anastrepha species, from the curvicauda, fraterculus, grandis, leptozona, mucronota, serpentina, spatulata, and striata groups. The descriptions are followed by a key for their taxonomic identification. Similarly, the third instar of A. ligiae, A. manizaliensis, A. manihoti, and A. rheediae are described for the first time. Finally, the hosts Eugenia florida (Myrtaceae) and Lacmellea edulis (Apocynaceae) are newly recorded.eng
