Reactive oxygen species (ROS) can cause oxidative damage to important biomolecules in cells, and that is why there is an increasing need to consume exogenous antioxidants in the diet from vegetable sources; for example anthocyanins, which are compounds with multiple biological properties. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to prepare an extract from corozo (Bactris guineensis), fruit from the Colombian Caribbean, determine its content of metabolites of interest, and evaluate its antioxidant and antimicrobial activity against bacteria and virus in vitro models, as well as its effect on cancer cells. To accomplish this objective, chemical extraction was used to obtain the extract, colorimetric and fluorimetric methods to determine metabolite content and antioxidant activity, and cell culture assays to determine biological properties. The extract showed a high metabolite content, especially in anthocyanins, a good antioxidant activity, great inhibition of bacterial (Klebsiella sp. and Staphylococcus sp.) growth and viral (FLUAV and HIV-1) infection, and finally, it decreased the viability of murine and human prostate cancer cells. From all this, we managed to obtain a promising extract with excellent biological properties.eng
