Estructura social y desarrollo urbano: El barrio San Luis y la clase media emergente en Bogotá (1920-1950)

Abstract

Para la primera mitad del siglo XX Bogotá estaba pasando por transformaciones estructurales en términos económicos, políticos y culturales. Nuevas formas de producción, nuevos grupos sociales y nuevas narrativas surgían en un contexto donde la modernidad se abría paso por una sociedad tradicional, anclada a las costumbres de la colonia. Estas transformaciones, traerán consigo el diseño de nuevos barrios para las distintas clases sociales que abandonando progresivamente el centro de la ciudad se van a diferenciar en términos espaciales. En este contexto, esta investigación se centra en el análisis del diseño y construcción del barrio San Luis en la ciudad de Bogotá desde una perspectiva simbólica, buscando en la estructura social de la época y las condiciones materiales de la misma las causas de su desarrollo y de la llegada de sus futuros habitantes. In the first half of the 20th century Bogotá was going through structural economic, political and cultural changes. New production methods, social groups and narratives were emerging in the context of modernity opening it's way through traditional society strongly rooted in colonial customs. These transformations will lead to the conception of new neighborhoods for the different social groups whom will differentiate from each other in terms of spatiality as they gradually leave the city center. It is in this context that this investigation centers around the design and construction of the San Luis neighborhood in Bogota researching from a symbolic perspective, searching for the grounds of its development and the subsequent arrival of its future inhabitants in the social structure and the material conditions of the time.
