La investigación económica en colombia

Abstract

En este trabajo se hace un balance del 'estado del arte' de la investigación económica en Colombia. Su autor describe los aspectos institucionales que fomentan e inhiben la libre investigación en materia económica. Hace énfasis en la organización y la evolución de los núcleos y centros universitarios y en sus diferencias y desventajas con las entidades privadas o los grupos de investigación de entidades con grandes recursos como el Banco de la República. Pasa revista a los temas que interesan y han interesado a los investigadores en las últimas décadas y analiza el papel de las publicaciones especializadas más importantes del país. Sugiere que, aparte de la concentración de fondos en la actividad de consultoría, el problema más grave es la inexistencia de una verdadera comunidad científica y de programas de investigación definidos e independientes. De modo que para fortalecer la investigación económica es indispensable superar esta debilidad estructural.

This paper takes a balance of the "state of the art" of economic research in Colombia. The author describes the institutional factors which encourage or inhibit free investigation in economic matters. He emphasizes the organization and evolution of university centers andresearch groups, and their differences from and disadvantages with respect to private institutes or research groups from institutions with greater resources such as the Banco de la República. He reviews the topics which are and have been of interest to researchers in recent decades, and analyzes the role of the country's most important specializedjournals. He suggests that, apart from the concentration offunds in the area of consul ting, the most serious problem is the inexistence of a true scientific community and of well defined and independent research programs. Thus, in order to strengthen economic research it is essential that this structural weakness be overcome.
