The research design was cross-sectional, using structural modeling with path analysis. The sample consisted of 280 dyads of mothers and their respective children, between 10 and 12 years old, students of public and private schools in the city of Bogotá, D.C. Self-completed questionnaires were used. As part of the results, the data showed a direct and significant relationship between the variables maternal communication and social skills. In turn, it was found that the covariation between the maternal variables communication and expression of affection had a significant relationship with the functional autonomy of the preadolescents. In addition, autonomy has a direct and significant influence on emotional, social and self-efficacy skills. These findings allow us to conclude that maternal parenting mediated by children's autonomy does have both a direct and indirect effect on the manifestation of socioemotional skills of children during preadolescence. Future research is recommended to deepen the relationship between the variables expression of affection and autonomy, as well as to carry out the study with fathers and in other phases of adolescence.eng
