dc.description.abstract | Within urban planning, a fundamental yet often overlooked aspect by planners in freight transportation. This study aims to characterize freight trip attraction by pharmaceutical establishments in urban areas, using the Metropolitan Area of Medellin as a case study. Based on data collected through surveys conducted in 2024 across 311 establishments, linear and nonlinear estimation models were developed using the ordinary least squares regression method. Additionally, a spatial approach was considered in terms of establishment location. Segmenting drugstores into chain and 24-hour establishments versus independent ones was essential to capture operational differences. The resulting models relate weekly freight attracted trips to the establishment's area, the number of employees, and categorical variables reflecting the influence of location and delivery vehicle type. It was identified that the warehouse area is not a relevant aspect for this type of business. A detailed understanding of the behavior of these establishments constitutes a valuable input for decision-makers in the urban land use planning, as well as for suppliers and pharmaceutical establishments seeking to improve their logistical performance. | eng |
| spa |
