Debido a su papel en el desarrollo de la enfermedad periodontal las variantes de TNF-α, HLA I y II pueden llegar a ser indicativos de susceptibilidad a padecer enfermedad periodontal. dc.description.abstractSystematic review of the literature where the results of the search for variants in genes of the Human Leukocyte Antigen System and TNF-α associated with the chronic and aggressive periodontitis phenotypes, and their possible linkage disequilibrium, are reported. Periodontitis is an infectious disease that affects the supporting tissues of the tooth (bone and gum), among its most common presentations are chronic periodontitis and aggressive periodontitis. TNF-α is a cytokine involved in the development and progression of both chronic and aggressive periodontal disease; the TNF-α gene is found within the HLA III genes on chromosome 6, these genes are inherited en bloc along with HLA I and HLA II (linkage disequilibrium). Due to their role in the development of periodontal disease, TNF-α, HLA I and II variants may become indicative of susceptibility to periodontal disease.eng
