Transformación digital y su alineación con la estrategia competitiva : Estudio multicaso en grandes empresas del sector alimentos en Manizales

dc.description.abstract | Este estudio examina la alineación entre la transformación digital y la estrategia competitiva, lo cual responde a la escasez de estudios sobre la relación entre dichas variables, a pesar de que un objetivo primordial de la transformación digital es mejorar el desempeño estratégico de las organizaciones. Para alcanzar el objetivo definido, se utilizaron los arquetipos opuestos de estrategias de Miles y Snow -prospectores y defensores- para establecer la alineación de estos con las prioridades de transformación digital de las empresas. En este estudio se seleccionaron a propósito empresas grandes del sector alimentos del Departamento de Caldas, en Colombia, caracterizadas previamente como prospectores y defensores, en las que se analizó su enfoque de transformación digital a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas a directivos claves de cada empresa. Los resultados de las entrevistas demostraron que la transformación digital en los prospectores se orienta hacia el desarrollo de nuevos productos y mercados, mientras que la transformación digital en los defensores se orienta hacia el mejoramiento de su eficiencia operacional. Lo anterior indica la existencia de la alineación entre la transformación digital y la estrategia competitiva de las empresas analizadas. No obstante, los prospectores presentan un enfoque más estructurado respecto a la implementación de la transformación digital dentro de sus actividades estratégicas en referencia a los defensores. dc.description.abstract | This study examines the alignment between digital transformation and competitive strategy, addressing the scarcity of studies on the relationship between these variables, despite the fact that a primary goal of digital transformation is to enhance the strategic performance of organizations. To achieve the defined objective, the opposing archetypes of Miles and Snow's strategies—prospectors and defenders—were used to establish their alignment with companies' digital transformation priorities. For this study, large food sector companies in the Department of Caldas, Colombia, were deliberately selected. These companies had been previously characterized as prospectors and defenders. Their digital transformation approach was analyzed through semistructured interviews conducted with key executives from each company. The interview results demonstrated that digital transformation in prospectors is oriented towards the development of new products and markets, whereas digital transformation in defenders is focused on improving operational efficiency. This finding indicates the existence of an alignment between digital transformation and the competitive strategy of the analyzed companies. However, prospectors exhibit a more structured approach to implementing digital transformation within their strategic activities compared to defenders. From a practical perspective, the results of this study suggest that the studied companies implement their digital transformation initiatives while considering their strategic orientation. | eng |
