This study seeks to examine the contribution generated by ambidexterity in innovation performance, from the perspective of the technological trajectory (incremental and radical innovation), achieved by new technology-based firms (NTBFs), in the department of Caldas, Colombia. This relationship has not been studied in this type of companies, the previous studies found in the literature have been focused on large industries and not on small or medium-sized companies in the technological sector. It was developed using the qualitative methodology of content analysis with information collected from 3 companies in the department of Caldas whose value propositions are based on technology. The results show that ambidexterity through exploitation and exploration capabilities, drives incremental and radical innovation results respectively, also they are complementary strategies and are not mutually exclusive to motivate innovation in organizations. Additionally, in terms of management, these results provide an alternative for top managers seeking to implement strategies that improve their innovation performance in the short and long term to survive in market uncertainty.eng
