Género, diferencia sexual y la "mujer" como nombre imposible de la igualdad

Abstract

Feminism gives an account of a paradoxical relation with sexual difference: it is needed in order to speak about and in the name of women (meaning it uses a category that is discursively produced through sexual difference) and it is denied in so far as sexual difference is conceptualized as a source of oppression. By invoking the name “woman”, feminism reproduces the sexual difference it seeks to eliminate. Through the method of disagreement as it is conceptualized in the work of Jacques Rancière, I hope to change the initial terms of this paradox in order to re-think the subject of feminism (this name “woman”). For this purpose, I set up the stage of a disagreement between two concepts that center the paradox (gender and sexual difference) and another that de-centers it (equality). The hypothesis advanced is that “woman” is not and cannot be the self-evident subject of feminism and is, in fact, the name of a void; the void of an identification with the impossible name of equality.

El feminismo da cuenta de una relación paradójica con la diferencia sexual: la necesita para poder hablar en nombre de y como mujeres (es decir, se vale de una categoría que es producida discursivamente a través de la diferencia sexual) y la niega en cuanto esta es precisamente la fuente de su opresión. Al invocar el nombre “mujer”, el feminismo reproduce la diferencia sexual que busca eliminar. Propongo cambiar los términos iniciales de esta paradoja con el objetivo de repensar el sujeto del feminismo (este nombre “mujer”) bajo el método del desacuerdo como práctica emancipatoria propuesto por Jacques Rancière. Para esto, pongo en operación el escenario de un desacuerdo a partir de dos conceptos que centran la paradoja (el género y la diferencia sexual) y uno que la descentra (la igualdad). La hipótesis desarrollada es que la “mujer” no es y no puede ser el sujeto autoevidente del feminismo y que es, en cambio, el nombre de un vacío; aquel de la identificación con el nombre imposible de la igualdad.
