Sarcopenia is a syndrome characterized by reduced muscle mass, decreased strength, and impaired physical performance. It affects between 5% and 13% of adults aged 60 to 80 years, and between 11% and 50% of those over 80 years. The lack of agreement between current consensus makes its identification difficult and leads to underdiagnosis in daily medical practice. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the correlation between the tests used in each diagnostic area to determine their applicability, in the present research it was carried out with the muscle performance sphere. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 87 adults aged between 50 and 91 years, evaluated in the exercise physiology laboratory of the National University of Colombia. Muscle performance (measured by the SPPB and 6-minute walk speed, 6MWT), appendicular muscle mass, and grip strength were analyzed to diagnose sarcopenia. The primary objective was to determine the correlation between 6MWT speed and SPPB score. Statistics: Data normality was assessed using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Qualitative variables were described in absolute and relative frequencies. The correlation between SPPB and 6-minute walk was analyzed using the Spearman test, and percentiles of the results of both tests were calculated. Results: A moderately strong positive correlation was found between SPPB and walking speed (r=0.716; p<0.05). The cut-off points of both tests were located at different percentiles: in the 6-minute walk (≤ 0.8 m/s and < 1 m/s) between the 1st and 5th percentiles, while in the SPPB (≤ 8 and ≤ 9) between the 10th and 25th percentiles. The prevalence of sarcopenia in the sample was 18.9%, being more frequent in women, older people and physically inactive people. Discussion and conclusions: The moderately strong positive correlation between the 6-minute walk and the SPPB, similar to the range of 0.61 to 0.75 reported in the literature, suggests that both tests are valid to assess muscle performance. However, the differences in the cut-off points in terms of percentiles highlight the need to adjust the cut-off point of the 6-minute walk upwards to improve its diagnostic equivalence.eng
