| dc.description.abstract | Este estudio investiga la hipótesis de la convergencia incondicional de la productividad en el sector manufacturero mediante un análisis econométrico comparativo entre Colombia, Estados Unidos y la República de Corea. Los resultados revelan una paradoja central para Colombia, y es que a pesar de que sus subindustrias manufactureras, especialmente las “tardías” como: refinación de petróleo y combustible nuclear, equipo de transporte, maquinaria de oficina, contabilidad e informática y vehículos automotores; demuestran un potencial de convergencia condicional a una tasa de crecimiento anual del 2.86 %, este dinamismo microeconómico no se traduce en un crecimiento agregado para el país. Se concluye que la principal barrera es un proceso de cambio estructural estancado, que impide la reasignación de mano de obra y recursos desde sectores de baja productividad hacia las industrias “tardías” con mayor capacidad de absorción tecnológica. Por tanto, se argumenta que para que Colombia materialice su potencial de desarrollo, las políticas públicas deben enfocarse en catalizar activamente esta transformación estructural. | dc.description.abstract | This study analyzes the unconditional convergence hypothesis of productivity in the manufacturing sector through a comparative econometric analysis of Colombia, the United States, and the Republic of Korea. The results reveal a central paradox for Colombia, although its manufacturing sub-sectors, particularly “late” industries such as petroleum refining and nuclear fuel, transport equipment, office, accounting and computing machinery, and motor vehicles; demonstrate a robust potential for conditional convergence at a growth rate of 2.86 %, this microeconomic dynamism does not translate into aggregate growth for the country. Overall, the primary barrier is a stalled structural change process, which impedes the reallocation of labor and resources from low-productivity sectors to the “late” industries with greater technological absorption capacity. Therefore, it is argued that for Colombia to realize its development potential, public policies must focus on actively catalyzing this structural transformation. | eng |
