dc.description.abstract | Currently, a lot of websites show accessibility barriers that don't let people with some special condition get offered services and content. This issue becomes increasingly important in educational platforms, as they must consider students' needs and preferences to promote inclusive education. Given this situation, people have developed different alternatives for accessible web content creation. However, it is necessary to look for solutions for already built websites and platforms that did not take accessibility features into account, such as redesigning or creating different versions in line with user’s needs, but such solutions can be costly in terms of time and money. Another option is to adapt different website elements to make it accessible, but in the found proposals these adaptations are made in external platforms. This itself creates a need for developing strategies that allow automatic adaptation inside the site. This thesis proposes a set of automatic adaptation strategies for improving web accessibility in educational platforms. These strategies are made of users' adaptation needs and components that must be adapted to lower the accessibility barrier associated to this element. These strategies were implemented on the FROAC (Federación de Repositorios de Objetos de Aprendizaje Colombia) educational platform, and for their validation two scenarios were defined: the first one in order to show that the strategies actually delivered adapted elements, and the second one to assess if the strategies improve accessibility. Results show that the automatic adaptation strategies make it possible to eliminate or reduce existing accessibility barriers in a website. | spa |
dc.description.abstract | En la actualidad muchos sitios web presentan barreras de accesibilidad que no permiten que personas con algún tipo de condición especial puedan acceder a los contenidos y servicios ofrecidos. Esto cobra mayor importancia en el caso de plataformas educativas, las cuales deben considerar las necesidades y preferencias de los estudiantes para promover una educación inclusiva. Ante esta situación se han desarrollado diferentes alternativas para la creación de contenidos web accesibles. No obstante, para los sitios web y plataformas que ya fueron construidos sin tener en cuenta características de accesibilidad, se deben buscar soluciones como su rediseño o la creación de diferentes versiones de acuerdo con el perfil del usuario, lo cual puede resultar costoso en términos de dinero y tiempo. Otra opción es realizar adaptaciones de diferentes elementos del sitio para hacerlo accesible, sin embargo, en las propuestas encontradas se llevan a cabo estas adaptaciones en plataformas externas, lo que genera la necesidad de desarrollar estrategias que permitan la adaptación de forma automática dentro del mismo sitio. En esta tesis se proponen un conjunto de estrategias de adaptación automáticas para la mejora de accesibilidad web en plataformas educativas, estas estrategias se componen de las necesidades de adaptación del usuario y aquellos componentes que deben ser adaptados para disminuir la barrera de accesibilidad asociada a este elemento. Estas estrategias se implementaron sobre la plataforma educativa FROAC (Federación de Repositorios de Objetos de Aprendizaje Colombia) y para validarlas se definieron dos escenarios el primero para mostrar que las estrategias si entregaban los elementos adaptados y el segundo para evaluar que las estrategias si mejoran la accesibilidad. Los resultados que se obtuvieron demuestran que las estrategias de adaptación automática permiten eliminar o reducir las barreras de accesibilidad existentes en un sitio web. | spa |
