Altura de defoliación y recuperación de la pastura Kikuyo (Cenchrus clandestinus) en la provincia de Ubaté

Abstract

La provincia de Ubaté es una región de tradición lechera, donde la principal base de alimentación del ganado es la pastura, principalmente Kikuyo (Cenchrus clandestinus), del cual no ha sido estudiado como la altura de corte residual afecta la producción, calidad y persistencia en esas condiciones ambientales. El objetivo de este ensayo fue evaluar el efecto de la altura de defoliación (5, 10 y 15 cm) sobre la producción, estructura, calidad y fenología de la pastura Cenchrus clandestinus en 4 fincas de la provincia de Ubaté. La mayor altura de defoliación (15 cm) presentó mayores rendimientos de MS/ha pero producciones similares de hojas y tallos. La calidad de la pastura no fue diferente entre alturas de defoliación con excepción de las fibras que fueron mayores en las pasturas defoliadas a menor altura (5cm). Sin embargo, esto no se reflejó en diferencias en la DIVMS. Para las variables fenológicas se observó que con el tratamiento de 15 cm disminuyó la aparición de hojas vivas y brotes, con el tratamiento de 5 cm disminuyó la aparición de hojas muertas, mientras que la floración no se vio afectada por los tratamientos.

Abstract: The Ubaté province is a region with dairy tradition, where the main feeding base of livestock is pasture, mainly Kikuyu grass (Cenchrus clandestinus). It has not being studied how the height of defoliation affects production, quality and persistence in these environmental conditions. The objective of this trial was to evaluate the effect of the height of defoliation (5, 10 and 15 cm) on the production, structure, quality and phenology of the pasture Cenchrus clandestinus in 4 sites of the Ubaté. At 15 cm height of defoliation, kikuyu showed higher yields of DM/ha but similar productions of leaves and stems. The quality of the pasture was not different between heights of defoliation with the exception of the fiber concentration that were higher in the defoliated pastures at 5 cm. However, this was not reflected in differences in IVDDM. For the phenological variables, it was observed that in the 15 cm treatment, the appearance of live leaves and shoots decreased, in the 5 cm treatment the appearance of dead leaves decreased, while the flowering was not be affected by the treatments. The results of this study offer little productive advantages in the pastures at a height of 15 cm comparatively with 5 cm, without affecting the quality of pasture. However, with lower cutting heights, the appearance of buds and live leaves decrease the appearance of dead leaves stimulating the persistence of the sward.
