These consequences also impact their families; however, the literature lacks clarity on the effects of these circumstances on the quality of life of relatives of TBI patients. Therefore, this review aimed to map the way in which the quality of life has been studied in this population, describe the instruments used to assess this concept, and detail the main findings of the literature on this topic. To achieve this, existing research was searched in Scopus, Web of Science, or PubMed, in both English and Spanish, from any date and country. Consequently, out of 1127 records, 44 studies were reviewed, mostly of quantitative nature, and predominantly involving participants from North America and Europe. Likewise, Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) was the most addressed concept among the studies, primarily evaluated through tests such as the Short-Form 36 (SF-36) and the Traumatic Brain Injury Caregiver Quality of Life (TBI-CareQOL). Finally, it was found that variables such as social support and neurobehavioral disorders were the factors that most influenced the quality of life of families of TBI patients. In conclusion, it is necessary to conduct studies with diverse methodologies that allow for a better understanding of the quality of life in families of TBI patients, and to include other variables not examined in the studies, such as the cultural context.eng
