La “sobrecarga invisible”. El habitar del cuidador y la labor del cuidado

Abstract

Esta tesis realiza un análisis multidimensional y multiescalar del rol del cuidador familiar informal desde la perspectiva del "habitar", explorando la relación dinámica entre el cuidador y su entorno emocional, relacional, físico, temporal, social y político-jurídico. Este enfoque, que examina su "ser-en-el-mundo", permite comprender cómo los cuidadores no solo desempeñan su labor, sino también cómo viven y moldean los espacios que habitan, enfrentando tensiones emocionales, físicas y sociales que afectan su bienestar y la calidad del cuidado que brindan. La investigación se desarrolló con un enfoque cualitativo abarcando tres dimensiones del cuidado: la dimensión del ser emocional y cotidiana; la dimensión relacional, social, económica y cultural; y la dimensión espacial, temporal y político-jurídica. Esta metodología permitió un análisis integral del fenómeno del cuidador, desde su dimensión ontológica hasta su representación en políticas públicas urbanas, como las "Manzanas del Cuidado". La investigación emplea diversas fuentes y escalas de información, como revisión bibliográfica, entrevistas y un análisis auto etnográfico del autor, cuidador familiar masculino a cargo de tres personas con distintos grados de dependencia. El estudio reveló múltiples hallazgos y tensiones que afectan a los cuidadores en las distintas dimensiones, destacando las tensiones jurídicas, sociales y prácticas derivadas de la concepción del cuidado como una "obligación". Asimismo, proporciona una perspectiva nueva para comprender el espacio del cuidado. Los resultados evidencian que, pese al creciente interés, esta población continúa siendo invisibilizada, lo que pone de manifiesto la distancia entre sus necesidades reales y la comprensión y respuesta ofrecida por las instituciones y la sociedad (Texto tomado de la fuente)

This thesis presents a multidimensional and multiscalar analysis of the role of informal family caregivers from the perspective of "dwelling," exploring the dynamic relationship between the caregiver and their emotional, relational, physical, temporal, social, and politico-legal environment. This approach, which examines their "being-in-the-world," enables an understanding not only of how caregivers perform their duties but also how they live and shape the spaces they inhabit, facing emotional, physical, and social tensions that affect their well-being and the quality of care they provide. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach that encompassed three dimensions of caregiving: the emotional and everyday dimension of being; the relational, social, economic, and cultural dimension; and the spatial, temporal, and politico-legal dimension. This methodology allowed for a comprehensive analysis of the caregiving phenomenon, from its ontological dimension to its representation in urban public policies, such as the "Care Blocks" ("Manzanas del Cuidado"). The research draws on various sources and scales of information, including a literature review, interviews, and an autoethnographic analysis by the author, a male family caregiver responsible for three people with varying degrees of dependency. The study revealed multiple findings and tensions affecting caregivers across these dimensions, highlighting the legal, social, and practical tensions stemming from the conception of caregiving as an "obligation." Furthermore, it provides a new perspective for understanding the caregiving space. The results demonstrate that, despite growing interest, this population continues to be marginalized, underscoring the gap between their real needs and the understanding and response provided by institutions and society.
