The SARS-CoV-2, discovered in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, is the virus responsible for COVID-19. This disease quickly became a global pandemic, claiming millions of lives worldwide. Although the primary symptoms are associated with the respiratory and circulatory systems, such as loss of smell or taste, fever, dry cough, headache, severe pneumonia, and coagulation disorders, it has been observed that the virus also affects other human body systems. This is due to the high expression of ACE2, the receptor protein that allows the entry of the coronavirus. The incidence of the virus in different systems, in addition to the respiratory system, is of great biomedical relevance. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the clinical pictures in different human body systems and see how they can contribute to different neuropsychiatric manifestations. This study will explore the relationship between the variants of the TMPRSS2 gene (rs430915, 11910678) and the susceptibility to contract COVID-19, as well as its relationship with various clinical manifestations, especially at the neurological level. For this, two groups of 43 individuals over 18 years old in Bogotá D.C were analyzed: one with a positive PCR COVID-19 test and another without symptoms or a positive test for COVID-19 in the last 4 weeks. Individuals positive for SARS-CoV-2 will be classified into asymptomatic, mild, and severe cases. Both groups underwent a neuropsychological battery and blood samples will be taken for genotyping using molecular biology techniques, seeking to identify the genetic relationship of the TMPRSS2 gene variants with contracting COVID-19, symptoms, and the risk of developing LONG-COVID.eng
