dc.description.abstract | Standardization in perioperative care has led to significant achievements in terms of surgical results in the last two decades, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®), is a clear example. ERAS®, which stands for Accelerated or Improved Recovery after Surgery, is a multimodal rehabilitation program in elective surgery, a strategy aimed at impacting both surgical results and efficiency in health care, with a purpose of reducing the metabolic stress caused by surgical aggression, facilitating postoperative recovery. In adults, the implementation of these protocols has had a positive impact on the complete recovery of the patient, achieving a decrease in hospital stay, complications and in-hospital costs. This type of protocol is limited in the pediatric population, however, there are already ERAS® protocol studies in children that have shown that its implementation is feasible and safe. It is time to have an ERAS® protocol in pediatrics, performed by HOMI surgeons and anesthesiologists, modified and specially designed for patients older than 1 month of age taken to elective intestinal surgery in order to implement it and demonstrate a better postoperative recovery, lower hospital stay and reduction of in-hospital costs in the pediatric population with these characteristics. | spa |
| spa |
