Abstract: Introduction. Glaucoma is the first cause of blindness worldwide, but it is preventable if a diagnosis and treatment are made on time. There is little information about the epidemiologic behaviour of this pathology in our country, therefore the available information from other countries has to be used. Purpose. To describe the epidemiologic characteristics of glaucoma in patients from the glaucoma consult in Clínica de Ojos of Bogotá. Methods. Retrospective cross-sectional observation study. Results. 718 eyes of 365 patients were included, an average age of 66,8 years old, female preponderance with 57,8%, the most common diagnosis was POAG accounting for 66% of cases, the most common cause of secondary glaucoma was PKP and the prevalence of bilateral blindness was 8,9%. Conclusions. The epidemiology of glaucoma in this group of patients is very similar to that reported in other series, especially those made in Latin America.
