El velo islámico

Abstract

El objetivo de esta reflexión es explicitar nuestras dudas sobre la utilidad de la prohibición del velo en las escuelas francesas para la no discriminación de la mujer. Por otra parte, nos parece adecuado aprovechar la oportunidad del debate para analizar el carácter aconfesional de nuestro sistema educativo y de nuestra sociedad. Por último, postulamos que la solución no pasa exclusivamente por la legislación de pautas de comportamiento sino por la educación y el convencimiento de la sociedad en su conjunto.

Abstract. «The Islamic Veil» The aim of this article is to present our caveats concerning the usefulness of the prohibition of wearing the Islamic veil in French schools in order to avoid discrimination against women. This topic will also lead us to further discussion and analysis of the non-religious nature of our educational system and society. We will come to the conclusion that legislation about standards of behaviour cannot possibly be the only means of reaching a solution; instead, education seems the best way of accomplishing the social conviction that is required.
