This paper empirically examines the validity of the Twin Deficit Hypothesis for Colombia using quarterly time series data covering the period 1991:1-2018:IV, using a set of variables that according to the theory turn out to be important transmission channels through which the budget balance can affect the current account balance. The analysis is carried out within a stationary testing framework, in addition to determining the long-term relationship, the limits test approach is used through a Model of Distributed Autoregressive Lags while for the short-term relationship it is used the modified Wald test developed by Toda and Yamamoto. The results of the causality test show that the hypothesis of twin deficits does not prove to be valid for the country; moreover, no cointegration relationship is found between the variables. Therefore the conclusions obtained here provide alternative viewpoints to the traditional theoretical prediction and may be questionable for a small and open economy such as the one studied.spa
