In Neuropsychology, research about normal cognition in adulthood is less common compared to other life cycle stages. The dominant conception takes adulthood as the highest peak of cognitive functioning. This reduces the importance of evidence showing that some cognitive processes can start declining from an adult age, depending on several factors that include sociodemographic conditions. This also happens in the Colombian context; the impact is the interpretations obtained through neuropsychological assessment in the country are done based on foreign populations’ performance. Objective: To determine the performance of memory, language and visuoconstructive skills in a sample of cognitively healthy adults living in Bogota city. Age, sex and level of education were considered as criteria. Method: The design followed was transversal and no experimental data; the reach of this study is descriptive-correlational. Performance on Memory [FCRO, BVMT, CVLT (PAMCL)], Language (FV, BNT) and Visuoconstructive Skills (FCRO) tests was assessed in a sample of 234 healthy adults aged 18 to 49. Additionally, associations and comparisons of performance were established according to age, education level, and sex. Results: Performance in all three domains evidenced differences related to the educational level. Significantly notable changes associated to the pass of age were also seen but only in visual memory domain. Finally, differences in memory performance were observed for each sex. Conclusions: Findings report an expected performance from adults living in Bogota city. This evidence the importance of continuing this kind of research that aim towards reducing the bias that arises from adopting foreign testing standards. (Text taken from the source).eng
