El lugar de la empatía en la constitución del yo: acerca de la vivencia de ser percibido empáticamente

Abstract

La empatía es entendida como la capacidad de comprender la vivencia de otro como si fuera propia, sin llegar a ser completamente propia. Ella tiene lugar en las interacciones de forma inmediata. Esta inmediatez se explica porque la vida anímica se manifiesta en unidad con la corporalidad de un individuo. La constante apresentacion de la vida anímica de un cuerpo psicofísico hace que cada yo pueda percibir las vivencias y el allí del otro a través de una analogía con su propio cuerpo. Cabe advertir que, en una interacción, quien ha sido empatizado puede reconocer nuevamente por empatía el entendimiento llevado a cabo por otro. A la luz de lo anterior, indagaré sobre si, en esta vuelta de su vivencia empatizada, un yo puede constituirse a sí mismo de las siguientes maneras: en primer lugar, al ser entendido empáticamente, el yo puede llegar a adquirir una versión conclusa de sí mismo como objeto psicofísico del mundo que se concibe a partir de nexos causales con este. Lo anterior ejemplificaría una respuesta a la mirada objetivante de otro. En segundo lugar, a través de la empatía el yo atribuye un sentido de validación o semejanza de sus estados mentales conforme a la visión que tienen los otros de esos estados. Examinaré, por último, cómo esa forma de verse a través de los otros le permite a quien está siendo empatizado legitimar su propio yo. Empathy is understood as the capacity to comprehend the experience of others as if it were one's own, without becoming completely identical. This occurs within immediate interactions. This immediacy is possible because the animate life of psychophysical bodies manifests in unity with their corporeality. Each gesture or movement is not something that represents thought, emotion or etc., but is the emotion itself. This constant apresentation of the animate life of a psychophysical body allows each self to perceive the experiences of others and the "there" of the other through analogy. This analogy through one's own body is conceived as the understanding expressed through corporeality. Followed by this, in an interaction the empathized ego can recognize the understanding again by empathy. Based on the aforementioned, I will finally explore whether in this return of the empathized experience a self can constitute itself in the following ways. One of them is that, through empathic understanding, it becomes possible to have a comprehensive version of oneself as a psychophysical object of the world that has causal links with it, which is achieved through the objective gaze of another. Another would be empathy understood as a way of attributing a sense of validation or similarity of one's own mental states compared to the vision that others have of them. Finally, I will examine how that way of seeing oneself through others allows the person being empathized with to legitimize their own self, given that the objective world is constituted intersubjectively.
