Resumen
La investigación se enfocó en establecer de forma integral, los componentes para la construcción de una iniciativa de geoeducación que estructure el geoturismo desde la sostenibilidad en el volcán Galeras (Nariño, Colombia) y su entorno. La identificación de saberes y percepciones sobre geoturismo y el volcán, y el análisis de sus características geodiversas buscan determinar las dimensiones adecuadas para un modelo de geoeducación que sustente una estrategia efectiva de desarrollo del geoturismo.
La metodología se estructuró en cinco etapas: identificación, inmersión, divulgación, consulta y construcción, realizando recorridos comentados, encuentros con comunidades locales y exploración en otros escenarios volcánicos, estableciendo diálogos y actividades académicas con actores locales y expertos nacionales e internacionales en geoturismo, geología, geografía y turismo, logrando el respaldo e interés de entidades locales, regionales y nacionales, generando espacios de formación y encuentros académicos de carácter internacional.
Los resultados evidencian un alto potencial del territorio y una valoración significativa por parte de los actores consultados, quienes manifestaron interés en fortalecer procesos de educación, apropiación del patrimonio geológico y articulación interinstitucional.
Estos aportes permitieron definir cuatro dimensiones: Territorio, identidad y cultura; Sociopolítica y acción social; Sostenibilidad y desarrollo y Aprendizaje significativo, geodiversidad y biodiversidad, las cuales configuran la visión estratégica del geoturismo en la región y subrayan la importancia de reconocer al volcán Galeras y su entorno, como un territorio geoturístico avanzando hacia un modelo de desarrollo territorial que integra el patrimonio natural, cultural y geológico, promoviendo un futuro más sostenible para las comunidades que habitan esta región. Abstract
Geotourism and Geoeducation at Galeras Volcano: Opportunities for Territorial Development.
This research focused on comprehensively establishing the components for building a geoeducation initiative that structures geotourism around sustainability in Galeras Volcano (Nariño, Colombia) and its surroundings. The identification of knowledge and perceptions regarding geotourism and the volcano, along with the analysis of its geodiversity features, seeks to define the appropriate dimensions for a geoeducation model that supports an effective geotourism development strategy.
The methodology was structured in five stages identification: immersion, dissemination, consultation, and construction. These involved guided interpretive tours, meetings with local communities, and explorations in other volcanic settings, as well as dialogues and academic activities with local stakeholders and national and international experts in geotourism, geology, geography, and tourism. This process secured the support and interest of local, regional, and national institutions, creating opportunities for capacity-building and international academic exchanges.
The results highlight the territory’s high potential and the significant appreciation expressed by the stakeholders consulted, who emphasized their interest in strengthening processes of education, appropriation of geoheritage, and inter-institutional collaboration.
These contributions led to the definition of four dimensions: Territory, Identity, and Culture; Sociopolitical and Social Action; Sustainability and Development; and Meaningful Learning, Geodiversity, and Biodiversity. Together, they outline the strategic vision of geotourism in the region and underscore the importance of recognizing Galeras Volcano and its surroundings as a geotouristic territory, advancing toward a territorial development model that integrates natural, cultural, and geological heritage while promoting a more sustainable future for the communities inhabiting this region.
