In asphalt mixtures, the idea is to have aggregates with fractured faces to increase their resistance and, in general, their capacity. When this mechanical process cannot be used we must make use of aggregates that tend to take rounded shapes such as those from alluvial deposits. It is important to know what happens with the resistance that we will obtain and what sizes can influence its decrease. In the present work, an investigation was carried out in order to know the influence of the aggregate shape on the stability and flow of an asphalt mix. 25 cylindrical specimens were made using the Marshall method, based on the hot coarse mix with a maximum size of 38mm (MGC-38), which is usually used for potholes or base, of the INVIAS General Road Construction Specifications. In each test tube, the aggregates of the distribution were replaced by glass spheres in three groups, first replacing a single size of the distribution, then two sizes and then three sizes, simultaneously, making the all possible combinations between them. The sizes selected for the changes were 25mm, 22mm, 16mm, 11mm, and 2.5mm. Finally, its stability and flow were found using Marshall equipment. Comparing the results, it was found that stability and flow decreases as a greater number of rounded particles are replaced, due to the increase in the number of voids in the specimens, which leads to mixtures with less resistance to fatigue and an increase in rigidity. It is evidenced that the specimens that have replacements of larger sizes of rounded material had the greatest effect on the results, obtaining the lowest stability values, directly affecting the resistance and behavior of the pavement, which tends to be prone to rutting and other associated affectations.eng
