On the contrary, it occurs in regions where it is registered as an invasive plant, such as Australia, where environmental and governmental authorities intend to carry out a classic biological control with natural enemies of the species, among which phytophagous insects are considered. Because of this, it is important to conduct research on the insect-plant interaction in the countries where the plant is native as in Colombia, where it is widely distributed and where it is important to determine the effect of phytophagous insects that can be considered as of potential use for biological control under natural conditions. This thesis was developed in chapters. Chapter 1 comprises the taxonomic identification of the insects interacting with the plant species and recording the damage. Chapter 2 presents the life cycle of Pronotacantha sp. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Berytidae) under greenhouse conditions. Individuals of this species were collected at the Estación Agraria Cotové, located in Santa Fe de Antioquia, and were observed causing significant damage. This chapter details its biology as a basis for future evaluation of the feasibility of rearing and use as a biological controller. Chapter 3 corresponds to the evaluation of the specificity criteria of Pronotacantha sp. by means of no-choice and plant-choice tests on different species of Passiflora. The results showed a total of ten phytophagous insects associated with P. foetida, most of them with sucking habit. Likewise, the plant associated with two hemipteran was recorded for the first time in Colombia, describing the damage to the plant and the biological aspects of the insects, especially one of them, which represents a new species for science. Finally, based on the feeding tests, the preference of Pronotacantha sp. on P. foetida was evidenced, but it was also found that since it has no other choice, it can feed on Passiflora edulis, where damage was also recorded for the first timeeng
