A cross-sectional research design and a hierarchical partial least squares structural equation model (PLSSEM-HOC) was employed. The study included 210 parent-adolescent dyads from biparental families in Bogotá and surrounding municipalities. The adolescents were active students enrolled in public or private institutions in grades 9, 10, or 11. Self-report instruments were administered to both parents and their adolescent children. The results revealed a direct effect of perceived maternal support on adolescent autonomy, as well as an indirect effect of parental values, mediated by parenting practices and perceived maternal support. No significant differences were found based on the gender of the parent or adolescent. These findings highlight the importance of parental values while also underscoring the significant role of the maternal figure in fostering adolescent autonomy. Among the study’s limitations, future research should explore specific profiles of parental support for autonomy and examine how parental values can be integrated into parenting programs aimed at promoting adolescent autonomy.eng
