dc.description.abstract | Este trabajo examina críticamente el lugar que ha ocupado el cuerpo en las discusiones clásicas de la psicología a partir de la articulación de la propuesta fenomenológica de Maurice Merleau-Ponty con aportes contemporáneos en las ciencias cognitivas. Desde el pensamiento cartesiano hasta los desarrollos conductistas del siglo XX y algunas versiones cognitivas, el cuerpo ha sido frecuentemente entendido como un mero soporte fisiológico, o subordinado a procesos mentales abstractos o representacionales. En contraste, el surgimiento de propuestas como la psicología Gestalt y la fenomenología de Merleau-Ponty y la psicología ecológica se ha replanteado este enfoque, proponiendo una visión en la que el cuerpo y su relación con el entorno constituyen la base misma de la experiencia cognitiva. A partir de un análisis teórico y conceptual, se propone una reconstrucción crítica de distintas corrientes psicológicas —como el paradigma estímulo-respuesta, la psicología de la Gestalt, el enfoque de Kurt Goldstein y la teoría del desarrollo de Piaget— articulando un diálogo con perspectivas contemporáneas. La tesis sostiene que muchas de las intuiciones centrales de la cognición corporizada tienen antecedentes significativos en la psicología del siglo XX, aunque han sido frecuentemente ignoradas o subestimadas. dc.description.abstract | This study undertakes a critical examination of the conceptualization of the body within classical psychological frameworks, through the theoretical articulation of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenological framework with contemporary contributions from cognitive science. From Cartesian dualism to twentieth-century behaviorism and selected strands of cognitivism, the body has predominantly been construed as a purely physiological substrate or as subordinate to abstract, representational mental processes. In contrast, the emergence of approaches such as Gestalt psychology, Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology, and ecological psychology has posed a significant challenge to this conception, advancing a view in which the body and its dynamic interaction with the environment constitute the very foundation of cognitive experience. By means of a theoretical and conceptual inquiry, this study offers a critical reconstruction of various psychological traditions—including the stimulus-response paradigm, Gestalt psychology, Kurt Goldstein’s organismic approach, and Piaget’s developmental theory—situated in dialogue with contemporary perspectives in cognitive science. It is contended that many of the central intuitions underlying embodied cognition find substantial antecedents in twentieth-century psychology, despite having been frequently overlooked or marginalized in dominant narratives. The work is organized into four chapters, each addressing from a distinct perspective the transformation of the body from a reactive object to a cognitive agent, with particular emphasis on its generative role in perception, action, and the acquisition of knowledge. | eng |
