dc.description.abstract | Colombia es uno de los países más desiguales del mundo, lo que de acuerdo con la literatura económica empírica, afecta su crecimiento económico. Sin embargo, también es uno de los países que menos redistribuye el ingreso, por lo que su desigualdad sigue siendo una de las más altas luego de recaudar impuestos y realizar transferencias. El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar si la desigualdad y la redistribución, simultáneamente, han afectado el crecimiento económico colombiano. Para ello, se utiliza un panel de datos con información quinquenal de Colombia y otros 17 países latinoamericanos para el periodo 1985-2015, y se hacen estimaciones con los estimadores de Difference GMM y System GMM. Los resultados arrojan evidencia de que la desigualdad es un factor relevante para crecimiento económico colombiano, cuyo efecto tiende a ser negativo; mientras que no es contundente respecto al efecto de la redistribución. dc.description.abstract | Colombia is one of the most unequal countries in the world, which, according to the empirical economic literature, affects its economic growth. However, it is also one of the countries that redistributes income the least, so its inequality remains one of the highest after collecting taxes and making transfers. The objective of this research is to determine if inequality and redistribution have simultaneously affected Colombian economic growth. For this, a data panel is used with five-year information from Colombia and 17 other Latin American countries for the period 1985-2015, and estimates are made with the Difference GMM and System GMM estimators. The results provide evidence that inequality is a relevant factor for Colombian economic growth, the effect of which tends to be negative; while it is not conclusive regarding the effect of redistribution. | eng |
