This document analyzes an alternative to overcome the main limitation of applying the panel data methodology, which is the lack of longitudinal data. In the 1980s, Deaton (1985) developed a way of combining panel data methodology with cross-sectional data that gave rise to pseudo-panel data methodology. The purpose of the exercise is to explore this approach to guide its application. The main conclusion of this study is that the estimator proposed by Verbeek and Nijman (1993) turns out to be the best estimator in terms of the mean square error. Finally, this thesis provides an application related to the estimation to the returns of education in Bogotá using the Integrated Household Survey (GEIH) collected by the Colombian Department of Statistics (DANE). | eng |
