dc.description.abstract | La evidencia empírica a nivel internacional sobre los retornos positivos de la educación secundaria y universitaria de pregrado es sólida. Menos se puede decir al respecto de los estudios posgraduales, donde los efectos varían entre 10% y 50% sobre el salario devengado en países desarrollados, sin evidencia relevante para países en desarrollo. Este trabajo aprovecha la exogeneidad causada por el puntaje de admisión a programas de posgrado de la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia y emplea un diseño de Regresión Discontinua para estimar los efectos causales de ingresar a un posgrado sobre los salarios. Esta investigación hace dos estimaciones: el efecto de la intención al tratamiento (intent to treatment, ITT) y el efecto del tratamiento sobre los tratados (treatment on the treated, TOT). Se encuentra que ser admitido a un posgrado no tiene efecto causal en los salarios de muy corto plazo (un año después de presentarse), ni corto plazo (tres años después), pero sí de mediano plazo (cuatro años o más), con impactos de entre el 51% y 57% para ITT y entre el 72% y 80% para TOT. dc.description.abstract | Evidence regarding positive returns of high school and college on wage is solid. However, that is not the case about postgraduate education, whereas most of the evidence is for developed countries and returns vary from 10% to 50%. This document takes advantage of the exogeneity caused by the Universidad Nacional de Colombia Faculty of Economic Sciences’ admission test and using a Regression Discontinuity design to estimate the causal effects of entering a graduate degree on wages. This research makes two estimates, the intent to treatment (ITT) and Treatment on treated (TOT) effects. It is found that attending postgraduate has no effect on wages in the short term, but it does in the medium term. Four years after graduating from postgraduate, an impact between 51% and 57% for ITT and between 72% and 80% for TOT is estimated. | fra |
