Delay discounting is a model that predicts the tendency of organisms to chose immediate rewards or less delayed against more delayed rewards. This model has been used to explain the consumption of the substances in addicts. According to signal reactivity paradigm, smokers show more craving when they're exposed to inductors associated with cigarette consumption. Although some studies had evaluated the effect of pictures on delay discounting in smokers, there isn't knowledgeable about the effect of other inductors like smoke. Also, delay discounting studies with smokers had been studied only with daily smokers; not with intermittent smokers. This study evaluated the effect of an olfactory inductor (cigarette smoke) on delay discounting in daily and intermittent smokers. Results suggest that the smoke didn't affect the daily smoker's area under the curve and that intermittent smokers area under the curve showed variability with the smoke. Daily smokers showed a lower area under the curve than intermittent smokers among four measures. These results suggest that there differences in the discounting between daily smokers and intermittent smokers.spa
