El dibujo de la forma : un templo, un pabellón y una torre en la arquitectura de Simón Vélez

Abstract

Esta tesis analiza el valor del dibujo arquitectónico en la obra de Simón Vélez como herramienta proyectual activa. A partir de más de ciento setenta dibujos originales, se propone una clasificación metodológica que permite rastrear la evolución del proyecto desde el trazo inicial hasta su construcción, destacando la vigencia del dibujo manual en la arquitectura contemporánea. Organizada en tres capítulos, la investigación combina análisis gráfico, modelos digitales y reflexión teórica para explorar conceptos como arquetipo, ensamblaje y verticalidad. Mientras los dos primeros capítulos se centran en el estudio directo de los dibujos, el tercero utiliza modelos tridimensionales realizados por la autora como herramienta crítica de validación y reinterpretación. El estudio concluye que el dibujo no es sólo representación, sino un instrumento generativo que articula forma, técnica y materia en el pensamiento arquitectónico de Vélez. This thesis presents a critical reflection on the value of architectural drawing as a design tool in the work of Colombian architect Simón Vélez. Far from being a mere representational medium, drawing is understood as a generative and constructive instrument, capable of articulating thought, material, and space. Through the analysis of more than 170 hand-drawn sketches, a methodological framework is proposed to classify the drawings based on their level of technical definition and their ability to anticipate built form. The classification includes simple projections, coded projections, complex projections, and construction details. The first two chapters analyse the original drawings and their role in three typological categories—temple, pavilion, and tower—revealing compositional logics of depth, balance, and verticality. The third chapter introduces digital reconstructions and renders developed by the author as a critical validation tool, reaffirming the relevance of hand-drawing in contemporary design processes. These models serve as instruments of reinterpretation, allowing the graphic language of Vélez to be translated into digital environments without losing its tectonic and expressive coherence. Ultimately, this research highlights the enduring role of drawing as an active agent in architectural thinking, especially when rooted in artisanal construction practices and sustainable material experimentation.
