dc.description.abstractLas patologías crónicas y particularmente la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) representan una alta carga económica y asistencial para los sistemas de salud. Si bien se ha avanzado en gran medida en las estrategias terapéuticas no deben dejarse de lado las medidas preventivas: existe evidencia contundente del impacto que tienen las estrategias de educación en autocuidado en diabetes (DSME) logrando empoderar a los pacientes y su familia además de mejorar el control de su enfermedad. Sin embargo, la estructura del ejercicio médico actual en sus diferentes escenarios rara vez propende por esto; la alta carga asistencial y el tiempo limitado dificultan el proceso de educar: una alternativa razonable y costoefectiva para paliar este déficit es el uso de una plataforma web de consulta para el paciente y su familia, en el marco de las herramientas digitales de educación. Esta monografía recoge evidencia científica y recomendaciones en: -DSME -Intervenciones en estilo de vida con énfasis en nutrición y actividad física -Monitorización glucémica y metas metabólicas que debe conocer y perseguir cada paciente para el control de la DM2 y las comorbilidades más frecuentes -Identificación de las complicaciones microvasculares y macrovasculares de la enfermedad, así como conductas con impacto en su prevención y tratamiento. -Utilidad de la tecnología en la educación a pacientes Esta revisión es el complemento y sustento teórico de una producción audiovisual educativa de acceso libre en la página web del Hospital Universitario Nacional (HUN) que incluye 3 videos educativos, infografías y una sección de preguntas y respuestas frecuentes. dc.description.abstractChronic pathologies and in particular type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) represent a high economic and healthcare burden. Although much progress has been made in therapeutic strategies, preventive efforts should not be forgotten, there is strong evidence of the beneficial impact of diabetes self-management education (DSME) strategies in empowering patients and their families and, therefore, in improving the control of their disease. However, the structure of current medical practice in its different scenarios rarely tends to do so: The high number of patients and limited time make the education process difficult: A reasonable and profitable alternative to alleviate this deficit is the use of web consultation platforms within the framework of digital education tools. This monograph collects scientific evidence and practical recommendations on: -DSME -Lifestyle interventions with emphasis on nutrition and physical activity. -Glycemic monitoring and metabolic goals that patients should know and pursue in the control of DM2 and its most frequent comorbidities. -Identification of the micro and macrovascular complications of the disease as well as behaviors with a preventive and therapeutic impact. -Usefulness of technology in diabetic patient education. This review is the complement and theoretical support of an educational audiovisual production of free access on the website of the “Hospital Universitario Nacional de Colombia (HUN)” that includes 3 educational videos, infographics and a section of frequent questions and answers.eng
