| dc.description.abstract | This research identifies the factors that shape the adaptive capacity of Afro-descendant communities in Bahía Solano in response to changes in the provision of fishery food resources, using the Social-Ecological Systems (SES) framework. Through a qualitative case study—interviews, social cartography, and participant observation—evidence was coded and triangulated with the support of MAXQDA, complemented by causal diagrams to project scenarios of change. The results show that adaptive capacity does not constitute a static attribute or a simple accumulation of assets, but rather a socially situated process that emerges from specific relational configurations among ecosystems, socio-productive organization, governance, and cultural constructions. The identified factors include: differential access to physical and financial capital; the strength of social organization and community agency; governance and co-management arrangements; intergenerational transmission of knowledge; and sociocultural constructions that sustain Afro-descendant territorial identity. These elements are expressed in three response scenarios—community, institutional, and intergenerational—which demonstrate that the ZEPA has configured a partial adaptation scenario. Although it has contributed to mitigating pressures derived from industrial fishing and to strengthening community mobilization, adaptive capacity remains conditioned by structural inequalities in access to resources, information, and decision-making spaces. In this sense, the sustainability of the socio-ecological fishing system will depend on overcoming these barriers and consolidating co-management arrangements that integrate conservation, subsistence, and Afro-descendant territoriality | eng |
