Abstract. This piece of work proposes a didactic unit that develops the concept of Matrix, the Matrix Algebra, and their application to transformations of the Plane. It is aimed at students of the Ninth Grade of Basic Secondary Education. Its design is based on the different phases of learning according to Van Hiele. It is composed by eight sequential activities, which intruduce in a progressive manner the concept of Matrix as the main axis in order to study rigid movements on the plane, by using the computer programs Derive, and GeoGebra. On the disciplinar part the Linear Transformations that preserve Symmetry, and Antisymmetry are studied.
