Ellas que te hacen

Abstract

He titulado mi novela ELLAS QUE TE HACEN y la idea central es reconstruir la vida de un hombre, Alfonso, a partir de las perspectivas que de él tienen las mujeres con las que se ha relacionado, y que lo han influenciado para bien y para mal. Espero, al final de esta aventura de escritura, de esta maestría, ELLAS QUE TE HACEN sea capaz de expresar con claridad y conmoción todas mis reflexiones acerca del sexo y el amor, del matrimonio, de la relación de pareja, del intercambio entre géneros en un mundo marcado por una nueva era que otorga el papel de grosería, por igual, a los conceptos de feminismo y liberación y machismo y sumisión. En una época en la que todas mis amigas de mediana edad están divorciadas o divorciándose, donde mis sobrinas salen de undécimo con cero proyección dentro del rol como esposas o madres, en donde he tenido que presenciar el desmoronamiento de la salud mental y física de muchas mujeres de la edad de mi madre, cuando simplemente no pudieron con la nueva imposición que ser su género en el siglo XXI les traía: mujer hija, mujer madre, mujer hermana, mujer amiga, mujer amante, mujer trabajadora, mujer cabeza de hogar, mujer traicionada, mujer independiente, mujer hombre, súper mujer. Y aposté llegar a esa gran meta para liberar a mis personajes femeninos, para desmenuzar por qué somos ahora así las mujeres, por una sola razón, porque me he convencido a mí misma: son así los hombres que queremos, porque son como los hacemos, como esperamos sean. I’ve titled my novel ELLAS QUE TE HACEN (THEY WHO MAKE YOU) and it’s central idea is to reconstruct the life of a man, Alfonso, using the different perspectives held of him by the women he’s related to. It is an ecclectic description made by the women that have influenced Alfonso, for good and for worse. I expect that at the end of this writing adventure, at the culmination of this Master’s program, ELLAS QUE TE HACEN (THEY WHO MAKE YOU) will be able to express with clarity and at the same time conmotion, all the thoughts I’ve nourished with anxiety about sex and love, marriage, couples, relationships. My theme of outmost interest is the exchange between genders in a world marked today by a new millenium that labels with dirty words the concepts of feminism and women’s lib, chauvinism and submission, all at the same time. In an epoch in which all my middle-aged friends are divorced or getting a divorce, a time when my nieces are graduating from high school and college with no proyections of their future as wives or mothers, I had the urge to start a debate. An era in which I’ve had to witness the falling apart of many women my mother’s age, their mental health an abyss uncapable of dealing one second more with the responsibilities imposed by their condition as females in the 21st Century: daughter woman, sister woman, mother woman, friend woman, lover woman, worker woman, head of household woman, betrayed woman, strong woman, unprotected woman, independent woman, over worked woman, man woman, super woman. And I bet I am attempting to arrive at the finish line just to emancipate my female characters, to analyze thoroughly the reasons why we as women are as as we are, specifically with the men we love. And I guess I know the reason, I’ve convinced myself that the men in our lives are the way we want them to be, because they are what we make of them, what we expect them to be.
