Abstract. Master's thesis "Difficulties in school: the drive is not the problem" is the result of a process of inquiry and theoretical analysis, which was based on the inherent difficulty of perceived educational event thanks to the many uncontrollable phenomena that occur inside and outside of school. Starting from a differential criterion ran psychoanalysis as regards theoretical research; I managing to deepen the concept of drive, widely developed in the work of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan. This review and analysis of drive theory, allowed to conclude substantial differences between Freud and Lacan, so it was found that the drive is not the cause of the phenomena problems that hinder the educational act, as Freud said, however the analysis of Lacanian theory of instinct allowed to infer that this may be linked to the achievements of culture; situation that opened new questions and gambling, which placed the symptom as a more viable explanation.
