Abstract. Several investigations testify about the role played by the perception of risk in drug use and its severity also studies at the National University of Colombia show the increase in the consumption of psychoactive substances within the institution, so we proposed the development of the following study aimed to describe risk perception and consumption of psychoactive in students entering medical school. This was done through a descriptive study in which two instruments, the risk perception that was designed by researchers and ASSIST is an instrument for risk detection and intervention designed by WHO were applied. The three main substances were more consumed were: alcohol, 92%, tobacco 42% and marijuana 18%. In addition students perceive them as less risky substances most consumed, showing a greater perception of risk in consumption of tobacco that marijuana
