Este artículo traza la historia de los usos de la palabra “género”. Sugiere que aunque “género” se ha convertido en un lugar común, muchos cuestionamientos persisten en cuanto al modo como se definen y evolucionan los términos “mujeres”, “hombres” y las relaciones de poder entre ellos. Siempre que continúe permitiéndonos cuestionar los significados que se ligan a los sexos, cómo se establecen y en qué contestos, género sigue siendo una categoría analítica útil, debido a que es crítica.
Abstract: This paper traces the history of uses of the word “gender”. It suggests that though “gender” has been recuperated and become commonplace, many issues persist around the way “women” and “men”, and the power relations between them, are defined and are evolving. Provided it still allows us to question the meanings attached to the sexes, how they are established and in what contexts, gender remains a useful, because critical, analytical category.
