Abstract: This article is a research report about a study conducted between 2010 and 2011 in the North Coast of Jalisco, Mexico. The study had three goals: 1.- Identify the number of institutions and the characteristics of public servants who attend to and prevent domestic violence against women. 2.- Analyze the needs and issues these public servants face. 3.- Analyze their conceptions related to gender. For the fi rst goal a census of all institutions in the region was conducted; for the other two, twenty people were interviewed. Results reveal that 76% of them are women, working at 12 institutions. Their stated needs refer to insufficient personnel and training. They conceive violence as blows and aggressions, unrelated to male control as the central point to violence.
