Abstract. This research project has as main purpose to broaden knowledge about the behavior of adipsin in healthy pregnant women and also patients with preeclampsia. Besides, the study analyzes whether there is a correlation between adipsin and anthropometric and metabolic variables during pregnancy. Data come from case studies nested in a longitudinal cohort controls, including pregnant women from prenatal care at the hospital Engativá. Healthy pregnant women (61) women with preeclampsia (20). Healthy women with three months postpartum record (20). Healthy patients during their menstrual cycle (20). The adipsin during normal pregnancy decreased compared with non-pregnant patients (p 0.0001), it significantly increased postpartum. Adipsin values in healthy pregnant women decrease in the second trimester (p 0.0001). Adipsin rises in the third trimester in patients with preeclampsia compared to healthy women, (p = 0.0620). A decrease in the activation of the complement in normal pregnant women is confirmed. Serum adipsin would not be useful to diagnose preeclampsia.
