Abstract. Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a neuropathic pain type of unwieldy, does not seem to find away currently from conventional treatment side effects and to be safe enough. That is how there are various theories in which different ways and mechanisms of production are involved on associated pain, and also countless treatments effectively and safely somewhat challenged. In this paper they are analyzed from the point of physiological and biochemical view of western and Traditional Chinese Medicine as one might conceive the mechanism of action of acupuncture involved, based on the evidence, that it could contribute to the reduction and eradication from pain. Intention is also to clarify what types of syndromes may correspond according to MTCH equivalent to PHN in the west, and thus pose a possible treatment principle and choice of appropriate acupoints .
