El siguiente trabajo consiste en una propuesta metodológica que busca brindar otra posibilidad en el aula para que los estudiantes del ciclo I, específicamente del grado 3° de la básica fortalezcan la comprensión del valor posicional del sistema de numeración decimal ya que al tener poca claridad sobre el mismo, los estudiantes incurren en errores en la escritura y lectura de los números, en la realización de las operaciones básicas, entre otras. Varios autores han intentado plantear diferentes soluciones a esta dificultad, aquí se toma como base el uso estructurado del cálculo mental y la estimación en actividades que refuerzan el sentido numérico y la manipulación creativa de los números.
