Abstract: Microfinance works as an important mechanism that contributes to the viability and sustainability for rural development. However, their unregulated growth may represent a threat to their sustainability and to their mission materialization. Therefore, it is relevant to analyze the development of microfinance in Colombian rural municipalities, for the purpose of establishing if there are aspects of vulnerability that lead to a process of financialization, and its consequent negative impact on the development of the microfinance sector by favoring instability and deepening its weaknesses.
