Abstract. This thesis identifies and analyzes women’s agency in the context of hegemonies of gender, class, race and sexuality that have been intensified by paramilitary violent social control in two neighborhoods of Soacha, Cundinamarca, Colombia. After a brief description of the history of armed groups in the area, the text reveals the hegemonies through an analysis of the common discourses in the neighborhoods. The document closes identifying four types of agency whereby women act to protect themselves from violence, but do not question the existent hegemonies.
