Auscultare

Abstract

La palabra escuchar proviene del vocablo latín auscultare, que significa “inclinarse para aplicar la oreja”. El término escucha supone un recorrido que trasciende la audición, porque su raíz latina da origen también a la palabra auscultar, término de la medicina que alude a la acción del médico al percibir lo que sucede en el interior de un ser humano, oyendo el sonido que proviene de su pecho y su vientre. La importancia de oír, con el fin de entender el interior del otro y percibir su afectación más allá de su lenguaje corporal, oral y su pensamiento, es a lo que denomino “auscultar” o “acto de auscultar”. Este es el eje central que aborda el presente texto, cuyo propósito es sentar las bases para establecer el acto de auscultar como un fundamento de las artes y la pedagogía. La primera parte de este texto propone tres maneras de darle forma al acto de auscultar. Inicialmente, se propone su vínculo con la práctica del dibujo y con la línea, entendida como un elemento que permite acotar y definir el “lugar del auscultar”. Luego se establece el acto de auscultar en relación con las ideas de espacio, territorio, lugar, paisaje y contemplación. Hay una tercera parte que habla sobre la sordera como problematización del auscultar. Aquí enuncio los espacios experienciales de mi propia sordera, y describo algunos contextos sobre la sordera relacionados con la idea de tiempo, lo institucional, y las prácticas artísticas. The verb “to listen” comes from the Latin word auscultare, which means "lean to apply the ear". The listening involves a journey that transcends the act of hearing, because its Latin root also gives rise to the word auscultare, a term used in medicine that alludes to the action of the doctor when perceiving what happens inside a human being, hearing the sound that comes from his chest and belly. The importance of hearing, in order to understand the inside of the other and perceive its affectation beyond their body language, oral and their thinking, is what I call "auscultate" or "act of auscultation". This is the central axis that the present text develops, whose purpose is to lay the bases to establish the act of auscultation as a fundament of arts and pedagogy. The first part of this text proposes three ways to give form to the act of auscultation. Initially, its link with the practice of drawing and with the line is proposed, understood as an element that allows to delimit and define the "place of auscultation". Then the act of auscultation is established in relation to the ideas of space, territory, place, landscape and contemplation. There is a third part that talks about deafness as problematization of auscultation. Here I enunciate the experiential spaces of my own deafness, and I describe some contexts about deafness related to the idea of time, the institutional, and artistic practices.
