Abstract: This article is a didactic teaching proposal of learning on the basic concepts of genetics. It was implemented with eighth grade students of the secondary school at Juvenil Nuevo Futuro educational Institution in Medellin, between 2018 and 2019, under the social constructivism model. Its main objective is the improvement of the teaching of the basic concepts of genetics through the implementation of two strategies based on some principles of the critical meaningful learning of Marco Antonio Moreira and some principles of the traditional educational model. To elaborate each of the applied activities the results of a learning styles test applied to the students were fundamental, allowing a classification of the groups in order to make an analysis of the appropriateness in the teaching of genetics from the traditional model or from constructivism - meaningful learning, taking into account the development and participation of students in the activities of each strategy and the results obtained in the application of the learning test. It was evidenced that 62 percent of students who were part of the strategy learned significantly the basic concepts of genetics in relation to the group in which strategies from the traditional teaching were implemented. The results of this study were evaluated with descriptive and qualitative statistics, which highlights the importance of innovating in educational practices taking into account students´ background and interests such as ICTs and other
